Children’s Learning Center Home

The Mt. Pleasant Schools’ Children’s Learning Center was established in 1982 in conjunction with the Mt. Pleasant Area Technical Center.  We are a year round child-care center as well as a laboratory site for area College students enrolled in the Early Childhood Education Program.  The Children’s Learning Center is a social/emotional-based center.  Each level, infant through preschool, operates with a primary teacher or caregiver.  We provide lots of individualized attention for each child.  Our environment offers a safe place where children can play, explore, learn important social skills, and develop emotionally and cognitively.  Our goal is to create a strong foundation for life long learning.

Our center is open to the public and serves children from six weeks to preschool age.  The Center provides breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. Parents provide personal supplies for their child (diapers, wipes, change of clothing).  Our budget is supported with bi-weekly tuition payments. Hours of operation are 6:30a.m. to 6:00p.m.

  • Breakfast, Lunch, & Snack included in cost of care.

  • CPR & First Aid Trained Staff

  • Experienced & Caring Staff

  • Focus is on social & emotional development.

  • Cognitive development through play and exploration.

  • Creativity & imagination are encouraged through pretend.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide young children with a secure physical and emotional environment, encouraging independence, self worth, and decision making skills. We will promote the value of family and community, while promoting success through early intervention and the development of individual skills.

Rooms

INFANT ROOM: 6 wks-12 months

Infant’s individual feeding and sleeping schedules dictate the day.  Our staff provides a loving atmosphere with lots of hugs and cuddling! There is ample opportunity for exploration and play with tummy time and interactive toys to play with. As children are being introduced to table food, we provide breakfast, lunch and snacks.

Each child is assigned a primary caregiver to care for children and take care of their daily needs, these include feeding, diapering, naps and completing daily logs. However, all caregivers will interact with all babies to provide each child with a loving, nurturing and stimulating environment. It is important that each baby and parent get to know and feel comfortable with all staff. We feel that a baby that has the love and attention of our wonderful team will be healthy ~ emotionally, physically, and mentally.

WEEBLE ROOM: 1 - 2 years

Individual schedules are also accommodated in this room, with some added structured activities. Simple arts and crafts introduced.  Physical, social, and language abilities are the focus as each child develops at his/her own pace. Outdoor play is encouraged in our outdoor, age appropriate play area.

A primary caregiver is assigned to each child to attend their individual needs. This helps with meal times and diapering as well as naps. Caregivers work with all children to give each child a loving, nurturing, and stimulating environment. Each teacher in our room loves working with children and wants only the best for them. There are lots of hugs and affection each day.

TODDLER ROOM: 2 - 3 years

Daily routine is introduced including story time, music and art projects.  Young children learn through play and are given plenty of time to explore and discover.  Vocabularies are exploding at this age and teachers are always available to encourage new words. Toddlers also have ample opportunity to play outside in our age appropriate play space.

Primary caregivers are assigned to this age group and daily logs are also completed with food eaten, diaper times, nap and any other important information parents need to know about how their child's day went. Potty training is also beginning to happen in this room. we have a bathroom for children inside the room with a child sized toilet and sink to help aid in this important milestone.

TYKE ROOM: 2 ½ – 4 years

A daily schedule is followed including art, pretend, floor toys, table toys, language development, music, outdoor play, group time, and nap.  Learning to cooperate in a group setting begins to be the focus at this level. Potty training continues in this room, with many children mastering it. There is a child sized toilet and sink for each pottying and handwashing.

PRESCHOOL  ROOMS: 3 ½ –  5 years

Our main focus is on the development of social skills, self-confidence, emotional growth and independence.  Creativity, imagination, and school readiness skills become part of the curriculum. Children will be provided with the opportunity for exploration in a variety of areas as well as participate in teacher directed activities such as group time and calendar.

**Age groups are approximate based on the individual child’s development and enrollment.**

Medication

When children start an antibiotic, we require that children are off the day they start the medication and 24 hours after. The exception would be a Doctors note stating that your child is NOT CONTAGIOUS. Antibiotics must be labeled with the original label with the child's full name, name of medication and dosage.

FEVER

Children will be sent home with a temperature of 100.4 or higher. Fever reducer is not given for fevers unless it is within a 24 hour period of immunizations or teething. Children must be fever free for 24 hours without aid of fever reducers. Fever reducer must be age appropriate to give to a child ( some infant medication state under 2 needs a doctors note) we need either a doctor's note or medication that is based on age and weight to be able to administer.

ILLNESS

Any unexplained rash, eye drainage, fever or severe cough will be sent home until it is determined that they are not contagious.

Cleaning

Changing tables, high chairs, and tables are washed and sanitized with a three step process before and after each use. We use soapy water, clear water and sanitizing spray. Dishes are washed in 3 compartment sinks with hot soapy water, clear water and bleach water. Toys that are able to be submerged in water are cleaned the same way. Large toys or those not able to be submerged and sprayed with disinfectant each evening and closing. Countertops are washed and disinfected daily as well.

Hands are washed before and after eating , diaper changes and nose wipes. Children was their hands before and after meals and well as after diaper and potty times as well.

Napping

All classrooms take a nap/rest time. Infants will sleep on demand, the other rooms will have a scheduled nap time each day. If children do not sleep, they will do quiet activities on their cots or tables. Crib sheets for the infant room are provided so we have the correct fit for the mattress. Weeble through Preschool we ask that you bring in a fitted crib sheet, light blankets and if you wish a small travel pillow. Bedrolls also work well for the mats we use. Bedding is sent home weekly to be laundered and returned.

Outside

Each room goes outside daily. In the winter please provide a winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat and gloves for outside play. Please be sure everything is labeled so it is easier to keep track of a some children have matching sets as other children. We also ask that children wear closed toe shoes with climbing and running up play equipment. In the summer we request sunscreen to protect sensitive skin as well.
