SOS Signs of Suicide Program

The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster of emotions. Depression, which is a leading risk factor for suicide and self injury, can often be misread among students of this age group. To proactively address these issues Mt. Pleasant Middle School’s two counselors Noah Maurer and Pat Boyd, will be meeting with Advisory classes over the next couple months to offer suicide prevention training through the SOS Middle School Program. This awareness program has been developed by the highly regarded non-profit organization that created the SOS Signs of Suicide Prevention Program for High Schools, used by thousands of schools nationwide since 2000, including our own MPHS. The goals of these presentations are to inform students how to identify the signs of serious depression and the potential suicidal behaviors as well as how and where to ask for help for either themselves or a fellow student. If you have any questions about this program or do not want your child to participate, please contact Noah Maurer, 8th grade or Pat Boyd, 7th grade at 775-2220.
