Preschool Program

WELCOME TO PRESCHOOL

We welcome you and your child to our program.  We know that joining us is a big step for both of you.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.  Whether your child is with us for a few hours or for five full days, we will work hard to provide top quality care and an enriching preschool experience.  We want to make this a comfortable and happy time for you and your child!

OBJECTIVES

Our main focus is on the development of social skills, self-confidence, emotional growth and independence.  We also concentrate on school readiness skills. These include; printing, cutting, Zoophonics, alphabet recognition, numbers, colors, shapes, sizes, spatial relations, art, science and music.

Our Preschoolers go on several Field Trips throughout the year.   Watch for notes in your child’s cubby. We are also the lab site for Mt. Pleasant Area Technical Center students taking Early Childhood classes.  There may be one or two high school students that spend time in the Preschool classroom under the direction of our Lead Teachers.

DRESS

We recommend that you dress your child in play clothes.  Although we do use aprons, some art projects do get messy.  We also play outside every day. The children are encouraged to dress independently.  We prefer your child wear tennis shoes, as it makes climbing on playground equipment much safer.  * Please keep an extra set of labeled clothing in your child’s locker in case of mishaps.

WE ARE PROUD OF OUR PRESCHOOL PROGRAM AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO SPENDING TIME WITH YOUR CHILD DURING THIS BUSY AND EXCITING PERIOD IN THEIR LIFE!

Parents & Grandparents are welcome and encouraged to visit any time throughout the day!

General Information

SUMMER TIME FUN

In the summer our schedule is more relaxed.  We offer the children lots of free time for outdoor play.  Please provide sunscreen for your child to keep them safe from sunburn.  Also make sure to leave extra summer clothes in case of mishaps.

WINTER PLAY TIME

Young children need fresh air to stay healthy year round.  Please provide a warm winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat and waterproof mittens so they can enjoy playing in the beautiful Michigan snow.

PLAY  STATIONS

During this time there will be several locations around the room with selected items available to the children.  They will have the opportunity to explore and discover with block areas, library, housekeeping, dramatic play, sensory exploration, musical instruments, arts & crafts materials and many other activities to enhance their creativity and imagination.  During this time the children are also learning social skills as they are encouraged to share, take turns and problem solve with each other. The teachers will play with the children and also do Table Time activities at this time.

GROUP TIME

Group time consists of the days of the week, months, year, and seasons.  Holidays, birthdays, and any other special events will be talked about during this time.  Themes may also be discussed at this time. This special time may include stories, music, Zoophonics, counting, finger plays and other games.

TABLE TIME  – Small Group

This time happens during Play Stations and is spent working on school readiness skills, mind stretchers, letter recognition and number concepts.  Children will work one on one with the teacher or in small groups so that each child gets special individualized attention.

REST TIME

Children are encouraged to rest quietly on their cots, but are not required to sleep.  It is a state licensing law that children are provided a rest time. We play soft music during this time and your child may bring one small soft item to sleep with if wanted.  It will be kept in your child’s locker during the rest of the day. Linens are sent home weekly to be laundered.
